Art & DT
Subject Coordinator: Mrs Heald
At Bramhope Primary school we aim to inspire pupils through looking at the work of important artists and designers with different styles, backgrounds and cultures. We explore how these artists have shaped and changed the art world and society in general. Children will find out about the artists’ lives and gain an appreciation of different works and styles, where relevant we make links to other subjects. If the children display a particular interest in a focus area, we have the flexibility to adapt our lessons. Key artists studied include: Frida Kahlo, Andy Goldsworthy, Yayoi Kusama, Vincent Van Gogh, Georgia O’Keefe, Georges Seurat, Salvador Dali, Alma Woodsey-Thomas, David Hockney, Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse.
We give opportunities to use a wide range of methods and mediums to develop skills, foster enjoyment and creativity and work alongside the children to create positive learning attitudes. All work is celebrated and appreciated and children’s opinions are highly valued. Children are encouraged to identify next steps to improve their work through self or peer evaluation and through effective teacher led questioning.
