Dear Parents and Carers,
Many thanks to those of you who have already signed up for clubs and music lessons, all of which start next week. We have 179 children signed up already, 94 in sporting clubs alone! We also have a few remaining spaces in some clubs and music lessons so if you would like your child to take part, please let us know as soon as possible.
Mobile phones
As parents, you will be well aware that social media is a big part of children's lives. Although social media can definitely be a good thing, there is a growing body of evidence to suggest that it can have a detrimental effect on children's mental health.
Many of our KS2 children are already experiencing some of the potential downsides of social media and I know that some parents have been discussing usage as a result of recent behaviours. Although giving your child a mobile phone is clearly a parental decision, we do work hard to educate children about keeping safe outside of school. Key recommendations from my conversations this week would be:
Reassuring children that they do not need to have their phones in their bedroom overnight.
Encouraging children to establish ground rules if they are allowed to use WhatsApp or other apps or games.
Reminding children that all mobile phone messages form part of your child's online profile
Our recent information evening entitled 'Growing up in a digital world' had many useful links for parents about these issues. Please click here if you missed it
Have a lovely weekend
