Dear Parents and carers,
Welcome to the second half of the autumn term. As you may know, this half term flies by and it was lovely to start the week by talking about Remembrance Day. Children in KS2 have been learning about WW2 and most recently, writing poetry which demonstrates their obvious knowledge. Here are just two examples of the wonderful work which has been produced as part of this unit-well done to Mathilda and Anya, budding poets in the making!
Silver schools game mark
I’m sure you will be delighted to hear that we are one of only three schools in Leeds to achieve the School silver games mark award in 2019. This is a fantastic achievement and reflects our commitment to sport in school. Well done everyone who has contributed to growing sport at Bramhope. Next year we are going for gold!
Run for your school!
This year we have entered the Leeds Schools Cross Country League for the first time. The league takes place from October to March, with five races held at different locations across Leeds on Saturday mornings. We have attended the first two races of the season already and there are still opportunities for both Key Stage 2 boys and girls who wish to run, but haven’t been to a previous race. Please click here for more details of the events.
If your child would like to take part, the next race will be held at Woodhouse Grove on 22 November. Please email Mr McKeown if you intend to take your child: pe@bramhopeprimaryschool.co.uk
Nativity-change of date
We have received notification from Leeds City Council Electoral Registration office that school will be used as a polling station for the General election on Thursday 12 December. Our KS2 hall will be open to the public for voting from 6.00am until 10.30pm but school will remain open a usual. Unfortunately, we have now had to change the date of one of our KS1 nativity performances and these will now take place on Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 November, 9:30 am - 10:30 am.
Second Hand uniform
As you may know, we have a couple of parents (Mrs Cuthbert and Mrs Lange) who have very kindly volunteered to set up a second hand uniform shop. They would like parents to pass on uniform they no longer need and have volunteered to sell it in aid of school funds. We do request that any uniform passed on is in good condition (no holes or stains) and that it is washed first. The message is ‘if you would be happy to give it to a friend, we would be happy to take it.’ If you would like to donate unwanted uniform, please take it to the school office clearly labelled ‘PTA UNIFORM FOR SALE’. Mrs Cuthbert and Mrs Lange will be selling uniform with the new and old logo and will circulate information regarding sales and process once there is sufficient stock.
Dementia Friends
Many of you will know that we are a ‘Dementia Friendly school’ and we encourage our children to be aware of the needs of all older people both within and outside of our school community. Catherine Birkby will be leading a ‘refresher’ assembly for our children and has asked me to inform you that there is a Dementia Friends information session at West Park Rugby Club on The Sycamores, from 6:45 pm -7:45 pm on Wednesday 13 November. This event is open to everyone and is free to attend.
Children In Need Day-Friday 15 November
To mark Children In Need day, we are inviting all children to come to school in non- school uniform (optional spots!) and to donate a pound to this worthwhile cause. Please ensure that children are dressed for outdoor play and have shoes they can play outside in. Many thanks for your support.
Have a lovely weekend
