Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope your child enjoyed their transition day today. There was the usual mix of apprehension and excitement this morning but it was lovely walking round the classes and seeing the children working and happy in their new classes, many of them with a new teacher. In September 2024 we will have single age classes all through school and our pupil numbers will be approximately 420.
Pupil safety
Now that we have more pupils and parents, it is vital that we focus on the implications for pupil safety. The school site is obviously busier at each end of the school day, and I am concerned that children are engaged in behaviour that is clearly unsafe.
Please help keep all children safe by ensuring the following:
- Leaving the site as soon as possible at the end of the school day. As you will appreciate, the school is open to everyone at this point, and we have children on site (at Kingfishers and in clubs) who are still in our care.
- Not allowing your child to enter the school garden (which also has a pond)
- Not allowing children to play in the bushes beside the sliding gate into the staff car park
- Not allowing children to scoot or cycle across the playground (we have many younger siblings on site, as well as lots of other pupils)
Longer day-a reminder
Please remember that from September, the school day will start at 8:45am and children will be marked as late from this point. Children can enter the school from 8:35am. We are making these changes to ensure we are meeting the government requirement of a 32.5 hour school week.
Increased costs for school meals and music lessons
As we are all aware, costs are increasing year-on-year and our school budget is very tight. We have been able to maintain the school meal price for a number of years, but we will need to increase the price per day by 5p from September. This means that for pupils in KS2, a school meal will increase from £2.30 to £2.35 per day. Pupils in reception and KS1 will continue to receive a free school meal.
Unfortunately, we also need to increase the price of Peripatetic music lessons to cover increased staffing costs. This means that lessons will increase from £45 to £49.50 per term from September. I am sorry we have had to make these changes, and thank you for your understanding.
