We like you to feel involved in our 'Big Think-Big talk' assemblies.
This week's theme is: online safety: completing our pupil survey
The key question we are asking is:
How do you use technology at home?

Dear Parents and Carers,
Preparation for the Bramhope Summer Festival is almost complete, and we are really looking forward to welcoming many of you on Sunday. A particular highlight this year will be the stalls which are run by our Y6's. As you may be aware, last year the Year 6 children planned and managed very successful stalls at the Festival, with collective sales exceeding £1000! It was great to see Y6 children so keen to give something back to the school and act as role models for our younger children.
This year, we are encouraging Year 6 to participate again and linking the opportunity with the month-long Fiver Challenge. www.fiverchallenge.org.uk
The Fiver challenge is a free national competition for young people aged 5 –11 years. It is run by Young Enterprise, the UK’s leading enterprise and financial education charity, which helps bring learning to life and encourage future aspirations in young people.
As part of the challenge, every child was given £5 and had four weeks to research, create, plan and run their own mini business. Children have worked with a maximum of four children in each team and as part of the Fiver Challenge, there has been an opportunity for teams to enter competitions. This includes the best logo design, the best sales pitch as well as the National Competition, where teams could win great prizes and be featured in the Fiver Showcase.
The Y6 children are all excited about their challenge and any encouragement you can offer them on Sunday would really be appreciated. Giving our children the opportunity to create, plan and run their own mini business is a great way to gain core enterprise skills such as communication, confidence and creativity. We also hope children will have lots of fun on the day - well done Y6!

Year 5/6 Visit from PCSO Joel Hebden
On Wednesday 21st June, PCSO Joel Hebden came to school to talk to our 5/6s about keeping safe as they become more independent and head to high school. He talked about how to use the run, yell and tell strategy to escape strangers as well as any situation where they feel uncomfortable. He also shared ideas of how to keep safe online, which reinforced our school messages. This included: telling a trusted adult, blocking, screen-shotting and reporting. Joel was very impressed with our knowledge and how much we already knew about keeping safe in the real and virtual world.

2G enjoyed their trip to Nell Bank on Monday 19th June, where they completed the senses and adaptations activities.
Each area was dedicated to one sense and demonstrated how various birds and mammals have adapted to use that sense, allowing children to explore the habitats nestled throughout Nell Bank. Children learnt first hand how animals use their senses to find food, water and shelter to survive in the wild.
2G were extremely well-behaved and a credit to Bramhope Primary School. Well done!

St Barts Girls' Football Tournament
On Thursday, 10 girls from Years 5 and 6 took part in the St Bart's Cup football tournament. The St Barts Cup is an annual, girls only competition for all schools in Leeds. Over 50 teams took part in the day and all matches were played at Goals, Kirkstall. Bramhope made a very strong start, winning three matches in a row. We secured a draw in the fourth match and suffered a loss in the final group match.
We progressed to the last 16, as second place finishers in our group. The quarter final match was closely contested and finished 2-1 in favour of St Urbans.
'I think it was a great chance for girls to play football competitively, to work as a team and to show that football for girls is just as important as football for boys,' Olivia.

Bike Futures Reception visit
On Wednesday Ian Cullen, from Bike Futures, spent the day in school teaching children in Reception to cycle using balance bikes before progressing to first pedal bikes. Every child in Reception had the opportunity to cycle in the morning and those who required further coaching were given extra time in the afternoon. The day was a great success and many children progressed from non-riders to using a first pedal bike independently.

Bike Futures Year 5 and 6 Maintenance Session
A small group of children from Years 5 and 6 stayed after school on Wednesday afternoon for a bike maintenance workshop. The workshop included ways to fix our bikes, changing an inner tube and conducting an M-check to ensure a bike is safe to ride.
'It was really fun and enjoyable. I learnt a lot including how to fix a flat tyre and how to do an M-check. I started with no knowledge and I went home with lots,' Alice, year 5.

Charity Cake Sale
My name is Ellin, and I am in Class 56M. I am holding a bake sale to raise money for a boy called Leonard who lives in Uganda. Mrs Colbourn told us about him in assembly and how his father cannot afford to send him to school. This inspired some of us to want to raise money for him in various ways. My friends Bethany, Hana T. and Kate W. agreed to help me run a cake sale.
The cake sale will be held in the KS2 playground after school on Friday 30th June. Please bring a pound as we will only be able to accept cash. If you had time to make or even donate some bought cakes, please send them in on Friday morning. The children can bring them to my classroom.
I really hope you will support us and Leonard, and enjoy the cakes!
Thank you
Ellin
