We like you to feel involved in our 'Big Think-Big talk' assemblies.
This week's theme is Being a 'Reach out' school, part of anti bullying week
The key question we discussed was:
- What would you do if you experienced online bullying?

Dear Parents and Carers
Learning to ride a bike for the first time is a memory many people treasure. As you are aware, cycling is not only fun, but also a great way for children to exercise, explore their sense of adventure and gain independence. This week, all our Y6 children have been taking part in Bikeability, previously known as 'cycling proficiency'. Bikeability cycle training equips children with vital life skills. Children not only learn to cycle, but they also gain independence, social skills and a sense of well-being.
The sense of well-being and achievement amongst the children who took part in Bikability was evident and there has been a real buzz amongst the Y6's this week. As you would expect, there is a wide spread of ability. Some children learnt to ride in the playground for the first time and some were out on the roads. However, whatever the ability, we know that after Bikeability, children are better at responding to risk and demonstrate increased confidence-something we focus on a lot in school.
I am really pleased to report that more children than ever are cycling to and from school each day and there will soon be an additional bike shelter off the KS1 playground. Bikability also complements our ongoing objective of increasing sustainable travel. We really do appreciate the effort parents make to walk to or from school-even when it's only once or twice a week. The WOW travel tracker obviously rewards those who are able to take part in this scheme, but we know that many parents promote and encourage an active lifestyle outside of school. Our next initiative will be scooter training, and we look forward to sharing our update on the effectiveness of those workshops!

Bikeability
First, the children learned to control and master their bikes in the playground. They were then taught how to ride on the side roads in Bramhope. This involved recognising typical hazards, passing parked vehicles and using T-junctions.
The Bikeability Team were impressed by the children’s positive attitudes and listening skills: well done to all of our Y6s!

School uniform
Please can I politely remind all parents that children should not be wearing nail varnish for school. We also encourage children to wear hairbands and bobbles in school colours (red, grey, white or black) and to keep PE trainers (white or black) as plain as possible. Thank you for your support. We are aware that school uniform is a significant, additional cost, so please do make the most of the PTA Pre-loved uniform shop, All the uniform is in excellent condition.

Children in Need
Children have enjoyed learning all about BBC Children in Need today. 2G discussed that Children in Need helps us think about things that we may take for granted and recognise that some people are less fortunate than others. The children also mentioned how it makes them aware of the other lives of children in the UK.

Online Safety
On the 8 November we held a parent workshop about Online Safety introduced by our Bramhope Digital Leaders and jointly led by Helen Westerman from the NSPCC.
The workshop included information about the risks of gaming, improving mental health and well-being and applying parental controls to social media.
We know from experience that many parents struggle with various online issues on occasions. If you would like to view the presentations from this event, please click here:

Jumbo Jumper Sale
Hi everybody, this is a message from the Y6 Eco councillors.
We are asking all children and parents to consider donating any pre-loved Christmas jumpers. We are running a stall at the Christmas fair to support our goal of reduce, reuse and recycle. Why not pick up a jumper for the fantastic price of £2? Buying a pre-loved jumper will not only support the environment but also help others as we will be donating the money to charity.
Have a good week everybody!

“Understanding and managing children’s anxiety”
Sue O’Leary Hall from Thesan Coaching and Training
Last year Sue presented a fabulous workshop (Helping your children with homework: how to create and independent learner) which parents told us was really stimulating and useful. Parents also suggested topics they thought would be useful for future workshops and "managing anxiety" was mentioned frequently. Sue has planned a session exploring the way we can understand anxiety and practical strategies you can use to help your child.
