We like you to feel involved in our 'Big Think-Big talk' assemblies.
This week's theme is Remembrance
The key question we discussed was:
- Why is it important to remember ?
|
|
Dear Parents and Carers,
I wanted to end the week by thanking Rev. Matt Broughton. As well as being our local vicar, Matt is also a governor at our school and has an additional role helping us develop links with the school community. At the start of the week, Matt led two, separate age -appropriate assemblies for KS1 and KS2. Our aim is for children to understand what we mean by Remembrance day and why we commemorate it. We also wanted KS2 children to experience their own two-minute silence at 11am.
I was impressed how respectful our children were today and would like to thank all the Y6 children who helped Matt lead the two-minute silence. Remembrance can be a difficult time of year and a difficult concept for children. However, I am sure you will agree that it is more important than ever for us all to pause, remember and be thankful for what we have.

Year 2 Remembrance
Year 2 have been busy writing acrostic poems for Remembrance day. We discussed the importance of remembering the people who lost their lives at war. Year 2 learnt that Remembrance Day marks the day World War One ended, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918.
We also honoured the two-minute silence which took place in the KS1 playground.

Northwest Leeds Cross Country Finals
On Wednesday 16 children, from Years 3 to 6, represented Bramhope in the Northwest Leeds Cross Country Finals on the familiar course at Wharfe Meadows playing fields. The conditions provided a difficult surface for cross-country racing, but the experience racing in the Saturday morning league helped Bramhope runners to excel.
We are still waiting for official race results but many of the children who represented Bramhope will now proceed to the Leeds finals, at Temple Newsam, in February.

Jumbo Jumper Sale
Hi everybody, this is a message from the Y6 Eco councillors.
We are asking all children and parents to consider donating any pre-loved Christmas jumpers. We are running a stall at the Christmas fair to support our goal of reduce, reuse and recycle. Why not pick up a jumper for the fantastic price of £2? Buying a pre-loved jumper will not only support the environment but also help others as we will be donating the money to charity.
Have a good week everybody!
The Eco Councillors

Herd Farm
On Friday 4 November and Monday 7 November, Year 3 and 4 visited Herd Farm for a Forest schools' workshop all about the Iron Age.
This was a fantastic way to start our new history unit looking at how Britain changed from the Stone Age into the Bronze and then the Iron Age.

The children had the opportunity to see what a roundhouse would have looked like, and we got to see how dark it would have been inside. An archaeologist then showed us lots of different weapons and tools and explained how they would have been made and how they changed and were developed over time. We learnt how a fire would have been lit using flint and after this we made our own fences by weaving willow. We were pretty good at this and there was fantastic teamwork!
We then finished the activities with the opportunity to practise our spear throwing!

Bramhope Buddies
The new team of Bramhope Buddies have been working hard in their sessions with Mrs Wilcox from Sporting Influence. Our Y6's have used these sessions to develop their leadership skills and learn games and strategies to use on the playground. They have now been out and about on the playgrounds for a few weeks supporting Reception and Key Stage 1 children at lunchtime play. Adults on playground duty have commented on what a big help they all are and what a difference it makes having them around.
Please read below what the Y6 team are saying about what they are enjoying and learning:
|
|
“I like meeting new people even if they are younger than me”
“ I like giving them a hand”
“It is really nice seeing their friendships and it makes them energetic”
“I feel I have got more creative”
“We have learned how to be a good leader”
“I don’t feel like I am missing my break, I feel like I am really having it”
“We have learned how to be a good leader”
“I really enjoy making relationships with them”
“I have learned how to deal with situations positively”

“Understanding and managing children’s anxiety”
Sue O’Leary Hall from Thesan Coaching and Training
Last year Sue presented a fabulous workshop (Helping your children with homework: how to create and independent learner) which parents told us was really stimulating and useful. Parents also suggested topics they thought would be useful for future workshops and "managing anxiety" was mentioned frequently. Sue has planned a session exploring the way we can understand anxiety and practical strategies you can use to help your child.

Xmas for Schools Project
After the great success of the ‘Xmas for Schools’ fundraiser last year, we have decided to do it again. The children really enjoyed seeing their designs on real products, and we raised £263 for the school. We are approaching the project slightly differently this year though. Children have created their designs in school. The completed design sheets have all gone home for you to add your order contact details, and then they will need to be brought back to school. Please can you fill in the forms and send them back by MONDAY 14th NOVEMBER so that they can be returned to in time to get them ready for your orders.
Once the sheets have been scanned you will be emailed a link to allow you to buy your child’s design on cards, mugs, tea towels, gift labels and calendars from the ‘Xmas for Schools’ website. As well as being a lovely gift/keepsake you will also raise money for the school. £1 from every item ordered will go to Bramhope Primary School.
I look forward to seeing the children’s designs. They were all wonderful last year!
Thank you,
Mrs Heald
