British Science Week
This week we have been taking part in British Science Week. The theme for this year's celebration of science is 'Growth'.
The whole school has taken the opportunity to get outdoors in our school garden and learn about growth at first hand. KS1 took part in a live lesson all about mini beasts and their habitats. They then went into the garden and created their own habitats for mini beasts. KS2 took part in a virtual workshop with RHS Harlow Carr to learn all about different parts of a plant and how seeds disperse to create new plants.
All classes have been planting seeds in our vegetable garden. Each class will now be growing different types of vegetables indoors and outdoors and thinking carefully about what we need to do to look after our plants and help them grow.
We look forward to returning to the garden and harvesting our crops later in the summer.
Finally, every child has taken part in our whole school sunflower competition. They started off by investigating growing conditions for seeds in the classrooms, and will observe growth over the next few weeks. At Easter, your child will bring their seedlings home to plant in the garden. We look forward to seeing photographs of the sunflowers at home when they have grown in the summer!
It has been a fantastic week celebrating Science and getting outdoors now that Spring is nearly here. Thank you for your support!
