We’d like you to feel involved in your child’s learning and maybe build on our 'Big think' assembly with a discussion at home.
Our assembly theme this week is 'helping to improve our playtimes'
|
|
This week's key question is:
Have you registered for our sponsored bike ride on 20 March 1:30-3:30pm?

Dear parents and carers,
You may have read that today’s news includes M.P.s references to ‘the devastating impact of England's school closures’ and are now wondering about the ongoing impact of Covid and remote learning with your own child.
You may have noticed that your child is ‘behind’ where you expected them to be and this may be due to limitations of remote learning. In some instances, there will still be gaps in conceptual understanding with challenging areas such as fractions. Other children have struggled with developing their reading stamina (reading at length, without interruption) or have forgotten some basic grammar rules they need to employ in their own writing, due to lack of practice.
As you are aware, there is no ‘quick fix’ for improving pupil attainment. However, we really value your continued support with helping your child reach their potential. In the coming week we will be formally assessing children in English and maths and reporting on progress in their end of term report. This report will indicate how your child is performing against age related expectations. Our aim is that you are fully aware where your child sits in relation to national expectations and are aware how best you can support them, regardless of attainment.

Ukraine
A couple of parents have asked about organising a collection or packing shoeboxes for Ukraine. Whilst it is clear the Ukrainian community are grateful for the goods and clothes that have been donated, I have been informed that they don’t have the resources to store and transport them. Because of this, financial donations are what’s required. If you would like to donate, please click on the following link:

A number of parents have asked whether we will be holding an Easter camp for the end of term. This is definitely going ahead, and we will be circulating a flyer to all parents as soon as we receive it!
If you wish to read more online in the interim, the link to the Total Sports Limited website is HERE.

We have loved looking at all the book characters, but some potatoes are now sprouting! Please encourage your child to collect them from school, so they can continue to be admired at home.

Kingdom of Benin Workshop
This week, all children in KS2 took part in an interactive workshop to encourage the learning of history through drama and performance. The children learned all about the early civilisation, the importance of the Oba, daily life of the Benin citizens and the destruction of the empire by the British in 1897. The children worked in groups to create 'living pictures' using their bodies and replicate important events in this period of history. The workshop ended with a mini-performance. It is fantastic that we are now able to invite visitors back into school to enrich our children's learning experiences.
"I enjoyed making the pictures in groups because everybody got to take part. I learnt that the Oba had many different wives." Lilia JL - 45S
'We learned more about Benin in a fun way and I enjoyed working in a group." 34H

Family of Schools Football League
On Monday Bramhope Primary School hosted the second match in the family of schools' football league securing a comfortable 5-0 win against St Joseph's Primary School Otley.
The atmosphere was relaxed after the win in the first fixture against Pool and Bramhope got off to a great start, with a superb goal from Magnus. Tom scored shorty after and the score at half-time was a convincing 2-0. St Joseph's defence improved in the second half, but it wasn't strong enough to stop Woody scoring the third goal from the edge of the box. After a substitution, Callum made his mark scoring almost straight away. Shortly after the fifth goal the full-time whistle blew and Magnus, our Captain, lead the cheers for St Joseph's. The boys are looking forward to the next match in the league against All Saints.

West Yorkshire Cross County Finals
On Wednesday the West Yorkshire Cross County Finals were held at Temple Newsam with children representing Leeds, Calderdale, Kirklees and Bradford. Reaching this stage alone is a massive achievement. For each race, of around 140 children, the top 12 finishers are invited to the National Cross County Finals which will be held later this month in Leicester.
In the Year 5 race Sammy took off at a blistering pace, closely followed by Thomas. The boys fought hard, swapping positions in the top 10 over an incredibly fast course. Both boys finished the 1600m circuit with impressive times- under 5 minutes 20 seconds- and managed to finish 6th and 8th.
Thomas and Sammy were delighted with the results and can't wait to take part in the National Finals. Everyone at Bramhope Primary School is wishing them the best of luck, and we look forward to hearing about their experience.

Arts Council Meeting with Graphic Designer
Yesterday, Bramhope Primary School Arts Council had a Teams meeting with a Graphic Designer called Beth. Beth works at ‘Our Creative’, a design agency in Leeds who specialise in brand identity and packaging projects. They have worked with a number of high-profile companies such as Doritos, Asda, Jamie Oliver Food and Marmite. Beth gave us a presentation on some of their amazing design work and talked to us about how she became a designer and why she loves her job so much. The Arts Council asked Beth a number of great questions, such as why she wanted to become a designer, who her favourite artist is and what her dream project would be. Beth said she’d love to design Beyonce’s next album cover! Beth also talked a little bit about the creative process behind designing a logo and gave some of our members some feedback on their own BPS Arts Council logo designs. We will soon be making our chosen design into BPS Arts Council badges for our members. When I spoke with Beth afterwards, she said she was very impressed with all our members. She remarked about how sensible and well-behaved they were, what brilliant questions they had and how impressed she was with their logo designs.
I think our Arts Council members would make brilliant graphic designers one day! Don’t forget to put your suggestions for the arts at BPS (dance, drama, music, art) in our suggestion boxes in the art studio or speak to one of our members around school. We’d love to hear your ideas!

British Science Week - Sunflower Competition
|
|
From Monday 14th March, we will be celebrating British Science Week in school. The theme for this year's Science week is 'Growth'. As part of our celebration of Science, we are going to be running a whole school, sunflower growing competition!
Each child will sow sunflower seeds and investigate the conditions needed for successful growth. The seedlings will then come home at Easter, to be planted at home to see how tall you can grow them!
Please could your child bring in a clean yoghurt pot (or two) suitable for planting a seed in, to help us start our investigations in Science week.
Thank you
Mrs Hurst and Mrs Lawson (Science Leads)

School lunches
The current school menus can be found on the school website HERE.
Parents should order meals in advance, for the whole week following, via Scopay. Please do this in before 13.00 on Thursdays, each week.
Choose M for meat choice and V for vegetarian. This can be done for ad hoc days. If you wish your child to have a packed lunch on some days please choose P for packed lunch.
Please help us by telling your child what meals have been ordered for the week, M or V. Some pupils are choosing different options to what has been pre-ordered, which means the Kitchen are running out of certain meals for KS2 pupils.
Thank you
Please contact the office if you need help using Scopay: admin@bramhopeprimaryschool.co.uk
