We’d like you to feel involved in your child’s learning and maybe build on our 'Big think' assembly with a discussion at home.
Our assembly theme this week is 'Taking Part'
|
|
This week's key question is:
Are you getting involved with school life: Children’s mental health week, Change One thing and up and coming World Book Day?

Dear Parents and Carers,
I want to end the week by saying a huge thank you to our Digital Leaders. I was fortunate to attend this month's 'Parenting In a Digital World' workshop on Wednesday, the third workshop to take place this academic year.
Our new series of workshops are designed to be practical and informative and I know the parents who attended found the evening to be very useful. In previous years we have based the presentation around national trends and statistics but this year, we focused on information we gathered from our own pupils.
Many parents were shocked at some of the findings. These are detailed in the article below from Mrs Hahnel. I know that some parents are having to consider issues that never previously occurred at primary school. Our Digital Leaders presented throughout the evening and also facilitated discussion with the parents. All our Leaders spoke with confidence and conviction, and I was very impressed by their maturity. I'd also like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Hahnel, our computing subject leader. Mrs Hahnel led the evening and explained the robust e safety curriculum we have in place in school. She has an impressive knowledge base and shared a number of really useful links and websites including common sense, a website that reviews the sorts of games and films your child might well watch with you or at a friends house. For more information about the evening, please click HERE to view the PowerPoint. You can also look out for an upcoming article in the Yorkshire Post on our 'Change One Thing' challenge, and it's never too late to make a small change to your family rules and routines if you want to.

Parenting Workshop
Thanks to the digital leaders who did an excellent job at presenting some of the key challenges to parenting in a digital world. They demonstrated a huge commitment to their role and presented with confidence.
The evening was really useful to highlight some of the key issues parents are facing and was informed by our online survey. Did you know for example the following statistics:
- 68% of KS1 children and ?95% Year 5/6 children? have their own devices?
- 75% Year 5/6 children? use their devices for at least an hour a day.
- 38 % of UKS2 children use Tik Tok? and 23% use Snapchat?
- 60% of KS1 are using YouTube?
Please find a reference document below with some of the key learnings from the evening.

World Book Day - 3 March
It's been a while since we've been able to run World Book day -please note we will be having a change this year!
Instead of finding or buying a costume, we are encouraging all children to decorate a potato as their favourite book character! If you are in need of inspiration there are hundreds of ideas on Pinterest. We really like the fact that this alternative is environmentally friendly and we look forward to sharing all your fun creations.
Please start thinking about your idea but don't bring potatoes to school until the day itself-3 March.

Change one Thing Competition
Thank you to all the families who participated in the Change one Thing competition.
We've had some excellent ideas and some lovely photos of some of the family pledges you have made.
We will draw the prizes on Monday in assembly and I would like to thank the following businesses for their support: Buon Apps Italian restaurant in Otley, Kidzclubhouse, Puffin Pottery, Lily's of Bramhope and Bolton Abbey, who have all provided generous prizes.
The 2 FIRST prizes drawn will be a family day pass to the Yorkshire Wildlife park, and we look forward to congratulating prize draw winners in assembly.

Leeds Cross Country Finals
This week 14 children represented Bramhope Primary School in the Leeds Cross Country Finals, after having qualified for the Northwest Leeds Area. The finals were held on a difficult, twisting one-lap course in the beautiful grounds of Temple Newsam. The standard was very high this year- even for our most experienced racers.
Year 3 girls were the first to test the course, and they ran brilliantly. Year 5 girls and boys were next to represent Bramhope, and we are awaiting final confirmation of qualifiers from their races.
Sammy W ran especially well securing a second-place medal, a guaranteed place in the West Yorkshire Finals and the all-important purple Leeds T-shirt.
All runners who have qualified are looking forward to the West Yorkshire Final. For all cross-country runners, the final race of the Leeds Cross Country League will be at the beginning of March.

Lion Learners Visit
This week, as part of our Animals including humans learning in science, we had some very special visitors in school!
We met a rabbit called Biscuit, a python called Timmy, a tarantula called Spinderella, a lizard called Claude and a giant African land snail called Sidney!
We talked about the animals' diets and what groups they belong to, and shared our experiences of animals from home and beyond.
What an amazing opportunity to apply some of our science knowledge and put our use of scientific vocabulary to the test!
It was a really great way to consolidate their learning so far.

As you aware, we really try hard to encourage healthy eating in school.
Please do not not put sweets and chocolate in your child's packed lunch.
It puts the staff on duty in a difficult position, is awkward for the child concerned and ultimately isn't great for good learning throughout the rest of the school day.

- across residents' driveways.
- in staff car parks.
- in disabled parking bays, please leave free for our blue badge users.
I would be grateful if all parents could adhere to the above.

Lunches
The school menus can be found on the school website HERE.
Parents should order meals for the entire week following, via Scopay. Please do this in advance, before 13.00 on Thursdays, each week.
Choose M for meat choice and V for vegetarian. This can be done for ad hoc days. If you wish your child to have a packed lunch on some days please choose P for packed lunch.
Please help us by telling your child what you have ordered for them. A number of children are choosing a different option to what has been pre-ordered. This means that we are running out of certain meals on some days.
Thank you
Please contact the office if you need help with using Scopay: admin@bramhopeprimaryschool.co.uk
