We’d like you to feel involved in your child’s learning and maybe build on class discussion around our weekly ‘key questions’
Our assembly theme this week is again 'Online Safety'
This week's key question is:

Dear Parents and Carers,
As we move into the final week of term, I know that some parents are concerned about bubbles closing ahead of the summer holiday. Closing bubbles continues to have implications for children and their families as well as staff and their families.
It is therefore particularly important that parents are aware of the significant change to routine contact tracing in all schools. From Monday, education and childcare settings will no longer be asked to conduct routine contact tracing. Instead, NHS Test and Trace will work with parents of the child who has tested positive to help them identify close contacts.
NHS Test and Trace already manages the contact tracing process for the rest of society, including children who have recorded a positive PCR test and has expertise in supporting people to identify close contacts. I do not have any further information at present as to how Test and Trace will help parents identify close contacts.
The following information sets out in more detail how the process will work from Monday and what you need to do if your child tests positive for COVID-19. The following information is taken directly from DfE documentation. This change takes effect from Monday 19 July. If there are any positive cases before Monday, you will receive notification from school.

|
Self-isolating and taking a test
- If your child has symptoms, they and other members of the household should self-isolate – and you should inform their education or childcare setting. You should immediately order a PCR test for them. If the PCR result is negative, they and other members of their household can stop self-isolating (unless instructed to self-isolate for other reasons). If the PCR result is positive, they, other members of their household and any close contacts identified by NHS Track and Trace must self-isolate until 10 days after the onset of symptoms.
- If your child has a positive result from a lateral flow device (LFD) test, they and other members of the household should self-isolate – and you should inform their education or childcare setting. You should immediately order a confirmatory PCR test. If the confirmatory test is taken within two days and the result is negative, they and other members of their household can stop self-isolating (unless instructed to self-isolate for other reasons). If the confirmatory PCR test is positive (or is taken more than two days after the LFD), other members of their household and any close contacts identified by NHS Track and Trace must self-isolate until 10 days after the LFD test.
- PCR tests can be booked online through the NHS Test & Trace website or by calling 119.
- PCR test results will be recorded with NHS Test and Trace automatically, but you should also communicate the result to the education or childcare setting during term time or summer provision.
|
|
Contact tracing
- If your child gets a positive PCR test result, NHS Test and Trace will contact you, using the details you registered when ordering the PCR test. You and/or your child will be asked a series of specific questions designed to identify who your child has been in close contact with. Being in an education or childcare setting with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 will not necessarily mean a person is identified as a close contact.
- You will be asked to provide the contact details, if you know them, of any of the individuals – or their parents or guardians – who have been identified as close contacts. NHS Test and Trace will then get in touch with these close contacts and provide appropriate instructions or advice (see below).
|
|
Self-isolation and/or testing of close contacts
- At present, anyone identified as a close contact is legally required to self-isolate and must not attend their education or childcare setting (the only exception is if they are participating in a daily contact testing trial). Anyone identified as a non-household close contact by NHS Track and Trace must self-isolate until 10 days after the date of their most recent contact with that person. If they live in the same household, they must self-isolate until 10 days after the date of that person developing symptoms (see point 1 above) or, if that person was asymptomatic, the date of their test (see point 2 above). NHS Test and Trace will notify you of the day on which the self-isolation period ends.
- Close contacts are also advised to take a PCR test. If the test result is negative, they must still complete the full self-isolation period, as the test will not detect all positive cases. If the result is positive, they will need to self-isolate for a further 10 days – and NHS Test and Trace will contact them to identify any close contacts.
- From 16 August, if the close contact is under 18, they will not have to self-isolate (in line with the policy for fully vaccinated adults) but will be asked to take an PCR test immediately, other than for very young children identified as non-household contacts, and they will not need to self-isolate while awaiting the results of the test. If the PCR test is positive, they will be required to self-isolate for 10 days from the date of the test. NHS Test and Trace will then get in touch to identify close contacts (see points 5 and 6 above). Further guidance on these changes to self-isolation will be provided shortly.

I was educated and have lived in Wharfedale most of my life, graduating from Leeds Metropolitan University in 2001.
I have spent 16 years working in the aviation industry, however after having my two children I chose to retrain as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant. I have always adored spending time with children and the coaching and development aspect of my role at Jet2.com, so it made perfect sense to pursue a career within education.
In my spare time, I enjoy baking, crafting and adventures with the children and have a keen interest in interior design.
I am delighted to be joining the team at Bramhope Primary school in September and very much look forward to meeting the children and their families.

I am delighted to have been appointed as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant at Bramhope Primary, with shared responsibility for whole school pastoral care.
A scientist at heart, I successfully completed my bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Physiology at the University of Leeds in 2005. I subsequently worked in an administrative role at the Crown Prosecution Service in Leeds, where I was afforded the opportunity to volunteer at a secondary school one day each week. Having confirmed my interest to pursue a career in education, I returned to the University of Leeds to undertake a PCGE in Secondary Biology before securing a science teaching post at Wakefield Girls’ High School, where I have taught since 2008 across the full 11-18 age range.

I am a highly committed and passionate teacher with a genuine desire to do my very best for all of my pupils, ensuring that children of all abilities feel valued and experience success. In my capacity as a key stage coordinator, I have enjoyed creating challenging and engaging learning resources to instil intellectual curiosity and nurture a real love of learning. Throughout my teaching career I have especially enjoyed my pastoral responsibilities as a form tutor, most notably my involvement in the transition process for Year 6 pupils embarking on their journey to secondary school.
As a mum of two young boys, I have developed a particular interest in the EYFS framework and KS1 curriculum and welcome the change in direction offered by my new role. I very much look forward to embracing new challenges, and building strong relationships with the staff and families, at Bramhope Primary. I am so excited to become a part of what is clearly such a welcoming and friendly school.
Outside of work, my two boys keep me very busy! We love to stay active and especially enjoy swimming and time spent outdoors walking, at the seaside and camping. We enjoy trips to the theatre and days out to find anything dinosaur related! No doubt I will meet some more dinosaur fans at school in September!

My name is Emma Hamilton, and I am joining your lovely school in September as a new Year 1 teacher! I am so looking forward to meeting everyone and being a part of your community. But before I meet you all in September, here is a little bit about me:
I trained to be a teacher at Oxford Brookes University and have been a teacher in a village school outside of Oxford for 3 years in a mixed Year 1 and 2 class.
I have links to Malawi, Africa where I have taught in a nursery for 3 summers. I have helped to design and implement a timetable within the nursery to support the children’s learning and the teachers in their planning. During my trips I have taught the Malawian teachers phonics, to help them teach the children English as an additional language and I have also helped to support and train local teachers and chiefs in Child Protection.
Outside of school I love to walk and explore new places with my dog, horse ride and have recently started learning how to play golf.
I am very excited to meet everybody and can’t wait to get started in September.
Take care and have a lovely summer!
Miss Hamilton

Classes 34H & 34HL
In 34H and 34HL, we have had one of our half termly PSHE days.
The topic was Drugs and Alcohol.
More specifically focusing on how to keep safe around medicines and household products, how alcohol and smoking can affect people's health and some of the laws around smoking and drinking alcohol.
The children had a lovely day and had some great discussions in pairs, groups and as whole classes.
They looked at a variety of different medicine boxes, to find out how, when and how much of the medicine can be taken safely, along with how they can be stored safely in the home.
The children completed some role play tasks around peer pressure and consent linked to smoking and alcohol and how to make sure that they keep themselves as safe as possible.
Here are some of the things that the children had to say about today:
- It was really interesting finding out how harmful smoking can be.
- I enjoyed the class discussions about how to stay safe with medicine.

Dr Bike Maintenance Checks
On Tuesday 20th July, Dr Bike is visiting Bramhope Primary School from 9am until 3:25pm.
Dr Bike is a free safety check intended to give you information about the safety of your child's bike. Their qualified bike mechanics will check bikes and carry out minor repairs and adjustments to enable your child to get riding. Bikes belonging to parents or carers of pupils at Bramhope Primary School can also be safety checked.
Repairs that can be carried out on the day include:
- Pumping up tyres and puncture repair
- Replacement of minor parts (e.g. brake and gear cables, brake blocks)
If you would like a free Dr Bike Check:
1. Bring your bike to school on Tuesday 20th July before 09.00am and deliver it to the Dr Bike mechanic. Bikes should be dropped off with the mechanic, outside lower school, in the car park area.
2. At the end of school collect your bike. If there are any additional repairs required, Dr Bike will detail recommendations for repairs to be carried out at a bike shop.
Dr Bike will endeavour to get through as many bikes as possible and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Thank you
Mr McKeown

Calendar Update
As you may know, the additional Bank holidays planned for 2021-22 fall in the June half-term. As a result, Leeds has stated that there will be 194 teaching days next year, rather than 195.
The impact of this decision is that we will be taking an additional training day in September. This means that the five training days for next academic year are as follows:
Training days/school closed: September 6, 7 and 8. First teaching day: Thursday 9 September
Training days/school closed: July 25 and 26. Last teaching day: Friday 22 July

BPS preloved school uniform (PTA)
For those who will be buying uniform for the new academic year and no longer need their current uniform and are willing to donate, please drop any donations off with Emily (at 41 The Birches) on Sunday 1 August or Sunday 15 August for the Preloved Uniform Shop.
Please wash all uniform beforehand and check the quality is good - if you would happily give it to a friend, we will happily take it - no holes, stains, fraying, etc. Please place your items in a bag and leave them by the garage door (no need to knock).
We will then add this stock to the stock list and be ready to take orders through our Facebook page - 'BPS Preloved Uniform' - at a later date (to be confirmed in the next newsletter).
We will process these orders and have your uniform ready to collect before the new term starts (exact date tbc). Please collect and deliver only on these dates. If you can't collect / deliver on these dates, please ask a friend or a family member to do so on your behalf.
We don't accept old logo clothes so please do not include these. You can recycle old logo clothes through school during term time. We will take all uniform (new logo or plain), PE kit (new logo or plain) and school backpacks (new logo). All money raised goes to the PTA.
