Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed the Easter break and are making the most of the sunshine and being able to spend time outside with family and friends. It has been lovely to see our children fully immersed in school once again and we continue to move towards a more ‘normal’ experience as our risk assessment allows. This week for instance, specialist teachers have started working across key stages and children are able to use the library, art studio and IT suite once again. I am also very conscious that children have been playing in their bubbles for several months now. Whilst this model suits some children, others are keen to broaden their social group. Our plan therefore is to enable children to play on the field in year groups from 17 May. This is dependent on the number of Covid cases of course (Westgate and Pool both had multiple bubble closures in the week before the holiday) and we will not be able to confirm this change until 14 May. |

Polling Day The school will be open as usual on polling day, 6 May. This year, our school will not be used as a polling station. |

Health checks As you are aware, on 12 May the 0-19 Public Health Integrated Nursing Service will be visiting school to see the reception children, to carry out the National Child Measurement Programme and a distance vision screening. Please return the permission information direct to Leeds Community Healthcare team if you have not done so already. If you have an enquiry about the National Child Measurement Programme, please call 0300 303 5678 or email enquiries@nhsdigital.nhs.uk. For further information please click here. |

Coolest Projects Is your child aged 7 or above? Do they like using technology to create things?
The Coolest Projects online showcase brings together a worldwide community of young people who like creating things with technology. Pupils aged 7 and above can take part and showcase their projects for the world in an online gallery and all from the comfort of their own homes.
Taking part is free and easy: Children have until May to create and register a project, whether it’s a project coded in Scratch, a website, a game, an app, a robot, or anything else they’ve built with technology. It doesn’t matter whether the project is a work-in-progress, a prototype, or a finished creation. All ideas, all experience levels, and all kinds of projects are encouraged and celebrated! Watch the video here on how to get started. |

Art Competition Winners Huge congratulations to our Bramhope Primary School winners of the Red Kite art competition! They are (drum roll)… - Sophie H 5/6L,
- Thomas H 1/2F,
- Eve M 1/2HP
- Sam H RW
We had so many fabulous entries and I had a very difficult time choosing the winners. I was really impressed by the creativity shown and the art skills used to complete them. All the entries could have won, but I could only choose four, so please don’t be disheartened if you didn’t win. Due to the difficulties presented by Covid and not being able to mix bubbles, the celebratory Zoom call was cancelled. However, all four winners will receive a congratulatory certificate, a set of watercolour paints and a paintbrush with hopes of inspiring more wonderful creativity! Below you can see the amazing winning entries displayed next to the originals which inspired the pieces. Well done everyone! |

Sophie wanted to recreate Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’ as a ‘Starry Night Over Bramhope Primary School’. What a clever idea and a beautiful use of colour and stunning creation of texture. |
|
|
Thomas has recreated Caravaggio’s ‘Medusa’ painting. I thought that this was such a wonderful idea and so creative! I also love the use of mixed media with the photo of Thomas, the toy snakes and the drawings behind. Inspired! |

Eve chose to draw and make a collage of ‘Daffodils in a Jar’ by Julian Merrow-Smith. She wanted to draw a famous ‘spring’ picture and I loved this one. Eve used old tulip petals to make her daffodil petals and an egg box for the middle of the daffodils. So clever and a beautiful, vibrant result! |
|
|
Sam has recreated Edvard Munch’s ‘The Scream’. Another wonderful example of creativity! I love the fact that Sam has become part of the picture; a piece of living art! So clever, fabulous mark making and an incredible use of shape and colour. Well done, Sam! |

Your prizes and certificates will be with you soon. Well done, again, to all the participants. What talented artists we have here at Bramhope Primary School! Keep creating! Mrs Heald |

PTA News Easter Trail Competition We hope all those who took part enjoyed the Easter trail, and huge thanks once again to Caroline Walker for organising it. All entries with the joint top marks were drawn from a hat in each category and the winners are: - KS1 – Rose and Mae M
- KS2 – Jess and Charles H
Congratulations to all – your prizes will be sent by email shortly. Thanks again to everyone who took part – the event raised over £600! New Treasurer The current treasurer of the PTA, Andy Bates, will be stepping down from the role at the end of August this year, and we are looking for a replacement to take over from 1 September 2021. The treasurer role involves managing the PTA accounts, keeping records of events, preparing an annual return and managing the PTA Events page. Andy is happy to work together for a period, both before and after stepping down, to make the handover process as smooth as possible. If anyone has any specific questions about the role, feel free to contact any member of the PTA or Andy directly andy_bates@talktalk.net. School Uniform This is just a reminder to let you know that we have lots of used school uniforms with and without the new school logo. We have a facebook page BPS PRELOVED UNIFORM where you can message the PTA, and we will reply to you or send your request on to admin@bramhopeprimaryschool.co.uk If you have any idea for a fundraiser, please get in contact with the PTA team on bpspta@outlook.com or contact any member of the PTA (Sarah, Maike, Andy or Maddy) and we can help you organise it and will be at hand. Thank you Your PTA team |

Finally, I am aware that parents missed an opportunity to meet with class teachers in March. We are therefore scheduling parent’s meetings for mid -May. At present, I anticipate these will be in person but socially distanced. However, as we need to limit the number of parents on site, we will need to be very strict about timings (10 minutes only per person) and operate a ‘one in one out’ policy per classroom. I will be circulating more details about timings in due course but have provisionally scheduled meetings as follows: Reception, Y1 and Y2 meetings: Monday 17 May and Wednesday 19 May 3:30-6:00pm (appointment times to follow)
Y3-Y6 meetings: Tuesday 18 May and Thursday 20 May 3:30-6:00pm (appointment times to follow) We look forward to receiving your comments and questions prior to your appointment and will be sending a meeting prompt to you in a week’s time. Have a lovely weekend |
