WOW – The whole school walking challenge
I am pleased to announce that Bramhope Primary School is joining Living Streets’ Walk to School campaign. After the holiday, your child will be taking part in WOW, a year-round walk to school challenge. Pupils will log their daily journeys to school each day on the WOW Travel Tracker and those who travel sustainably (walk, cycle, scooter or Park and Stride) to school at least three times a week for a month earn a WOW badge, with 11 to collect across the year.
Each year, the 11 WOW badges follow a new theme. This year’s theme is Inventions that Changed the World. Each badge is made in the UK from recycled yoghurt-pot material.
Why walk to school?
Fewer children walk to school than they did 20 years ago. In fact, just 17% of the nation’s children get the recommended hour a day’s exercise. Help us get more children walking to school again and experiencing the benefits of this simple act brings. Walking to school helps children feel happier, healthier and even do better in class because they arrive fit, refreshed, and ready to learn. In addition, more families walking means fewer cars on the road during the school run, helping to reduce congestion and pollution at the school gates.
What if we cannot walk to school?
If you live too far away, you can Park and Stride and it still counts as an active journey. Park at least ten minutes away from the school and walk the rest of the way. Join us, thousands of schools and around one million pupils enjoying the benefits of walking to school across the UK.
If you wish to park and stride you are able to park at the free car park on Old Lane, next to the tennis courts.
