We’d like you to feel involved in your child’s learning and maybe build on class discussion around our weekly ‘key questions’ The theme for this week is: Race The key questions are: |
|
- What do what we mean by justice?
- What do you know already about race?
|
|
|
Dear Parents and Carers, Many thanks for sending your child in their yellow Wilberforce T-shirts on Thursday. In light of William Wilberforce’s work to abolish slavery, the ‘Big Talk’ theme for this week’s assembly has been race, something which is pertinent in every school. As part of this week’s follow up work, I asked each class to watch and listen to a story entitled ‘Let’s Talk About Race’. |
|
Race can be a difficult concept for some children to understand and it is important to start these conversations early. If you would like to discuss this story at home, please click HERE to see it being read |

Outdoor Learning As you are aware, the focus for next week is outdoor learning. Within the week, we hope that every child will run or walk a ‘daily mile’ at least once, visit the school garden and school pond at least once and decide on this year’s ‘Grow, Cook, Eat’ project’. In addition, all classes will be getting ready for our new WOW (walk to school) initiative which is currently being trialled by 5/6M - more on this next week. As children will be out and about during the week, please send them in PE kit (with trainers) every day. If daily washing proves challenging please just ensure the children come to school in trainers each day! |

School meals Many thanks for your help in pre-ordering meals as requested, we had far fewer parents who did not book a meal beforehand this week. We do recognise that there are occasionally exceptional circumstances which mean a parent may have not been able to place an order or provide a lunch. However, please endeavour to place your school meal order by the Thursday deadline as we cannot guarantee to provide a lunch for your child with no notice. Lunch Menus and links to the order forms can be found on the school website HERE. Please order by 11.30 am on the Thursday of each week. |

Afterschool clubs for summer term To ensure all children in school have had the same access to afterschool sports activities, the parents of those children in classes 1/2HP, 3/4H, 4/5S and 5/6L will receive an afterschool sports club letter and form this evening, to apply for the Sports Clubs starting in the new term. Clubs will be reviewed before half term and other options will become available from the beginning of May. We are currently hoping to offer cricket to all classes on a Monday, and athletics to all classes on a Thursday. Thank you Mr McKeown |

Girls and Sport Pledge I am pleased to announce that Bramhope Primary School has signed up to the 'Girls and Sport Pledge'. By signing up to the Girls and Sport Pledge our school is acknowledging that there is an issue around the messages sent to girls in sport generally, and saying that we want to do more for girls in sport. We know from research that girls can be less confident about sport than boys. We also know that their confidence levels can be impacted by sending simple positive messages about sport. Next week Totally Runable, an organisation aiming to improve sport for girls, will be visiting school to lead a PE lesson with each class and to provide an insight into the attitudes held by children in our school. We look forward to working with Totally Runable and further improving our offering for girls. Mr McKeown |

Art Competition There is still time to take part in the Art competition! Both children and staff can enter the Art Competition, being organised by Red Kite. - Can you turn a 'Last Supper' into 'Jack's Supper' ?
- Can you turn a Banksy into a Poppsy?
- Can you turn a Picasso into a Picasausageo Dog?
We would like you to recreate a famous painting in any way you like. It might include you, a member of your family, your pet, or even be recreated out of food! So you can still email your submissions to: harriet.heald@bramhopeprimaryschool.co.uk until 18 April. We will choose 4 winners from our school. The zoom celebration date has been moved to the 22nd April. The 4 winners will receive a Zoom call to congratulate them, joining winners from other Red Kite schools, where they can share their winning entries with each other. Good luck! Mrs Heald |

Keeping Children Safe Online We know from conversations around school that a number of children are playing the game ‘Among Us’. Please click HERE to read a very helpful parent guide on some of the specific issues with this app from the National Online Safety website. Their site offers a number of helpful guides for different apps and games. Mrs Hahnell |

Track and Trace Finally, please remember that the school continues to operate a Track and Trace system. If your child or another member of their family develops symptoms, is awaiting a test result or has a positive test result you must self- isolate. Please also email me directly so that I can take appropriate action regarding closure of bubbles: rachel.colbourn@bramhopeprimaryschool.co.uk |
