PSHE
Today across KS2 we have been off timetable enjoying one of our PSHE days.
In our year 3/4 classes we have been learning about 'Money and Work'.
Today’s focus has been:
- How different jobs can fall into different sectors
- Gender stereotypes in the work place and in different fields of work such as STEM
- Why people work, how different people can seek different rewards from work such as earning money or having a role that makes a difference
- What hobbies and achievements we have now that might link to a future career
- How to set ourselves goals in order to achieve
This morning, the children found the work on gender stereotypes particularly interesting. They enjoyed listening to people describing their jobs and were surprised to hear from a female plumber and a male nurse.
The children have really enjoyed thinking about what might be important to them when they start working.
“Working with good colleagues that make me happy to be at work would be important to me when I get a job” – Molly
“I think that having a job that earns lots of money and a job that gives you lots of holiday isn’t as important as having fun with your job. You are going to do it every day so you need to enjoy it and work with good colleagues” – Layla
In the afternoon, the children looked at different achievements and how setting goals and targets can help us to feel proud. We talked through our biggest achievements, how they made us feel and what we had to do to achieve them.
“My biggest achievement this year was learning to tie my shoelaces. I did this by concentrating very hard and I had to listen carefully to instructions. When I did it for the first time, I was really happy and excited that I could do it myself without asking for help.” – Freddie
“My biggest achievement has been increasing my walking and trying not to use the car as much. I go on long walks and try not to stop too much, I had to be determined to make sure I got to the end of my walks. When I get to the end of my walks, I feel really proud of myself and proud that I have managed to walk so far.” – Evan
5/6L have also been learning about careers. They explored the qualities and strengths they would need to set a future goal. They then discussed the small steps that they would need to achieve their goal as well as how to overcome any challenges. Look out for the class of doctors, vets, scientists, engineers, footballers, business leaders and zoo keepers of 2032!
Thank you
