Olympic Athlete Visit
This week we were delighted to have Olympian, James Kirton visit Bramhope Primary School. Sport and staying active is more important than ever during the current climate and we were one of the only schools in Yorkshire to host an athlete event this academic year.
James spoke to each class about overcoming obstacles, working hard to achieve goals and having strong self-belief. Drawing on his swimming career, James explained how sports serve as a metaphor for life and how lessons learnt in sport can help in a variety of different ways.
Did you know James swims over 80,000m per week?
After the talks, James led a full-body circuit class for each bubble and answered a range of thought provoking questions from the children. James was blown away by the quality of the questions asked and by the resilience shown in the circuits on such a cold November morning.
Thank you for all the sponsorship money which has already been received. Please send all remaining sponsorship by Friday 18th December. All money raised will fund Team GB athletes and help school to buy new sports equipment. If you wish to donate online please click here
If you were not in school today, click on the link to watch the video from James and find out how you can get involved at home. We would love to hear about your spotty dogs and leg drives when you come back to school.
Some quotes from the children:
‘It was exhausting but really exciting,’ Hague Year 1
‘I’ve been practising the exercises at home, especially star jumps and spotty dogs. I enjoyed the activities and tried really hard to do as many as I could before the time ran out,’ Bella Year 2.
‘James was inspiring, he makes me want to do my best,’ Lucas Year 6
We wish James all the best in the future.
