Sports Day
This year, it was fantastic to welcome parents, grandparents and friends back to the school field for our three sports days.
Before sports day, children from reception to Year 6 had been practising athletic skills and had the opportunity to qualify to represent their house in sprint heats.
Starting with Key Stage 1 last Thursday, Burton took the win, collecting more points on the carousel than any other house. Children scored points in their houses over 10 stations, before taking part in the sprint finals.
On Monday morning, we held the sports day for Key Stage 2. This time there were thirteen stations for children to accumulate points for their houses. Despite the rain showers, the atmosphere was extremely positive, and the day didn't need to be cut short. I was impressed with the independence on display as each house group moved from station to station. When it came time for the sprint finals it was clear those who had qualified were keen to show off their speed. This was following a number of false starts, expertly managed and taken in good humour by the racers.
The final sports day had a less competitive feel and was an opportunity for children in reception to demonstrate the coarse and finer motor skills developed this academic year. With reception sprint finals following the nine activity stations, children were certainly out to impress.
This year we could not have delivered such a smooth running sports day without the help of the house captains. Along with the children they supported, the house captains displayed all of our sporting values: respect, positive body language, communication, determination, and respect.
