Dear parents and carers,
Thank you for all your efforts in helping us to promote walking to school. Parking off site is challenging at the moment due to building works, and we really appreciate your support.
In school, we encourage children to be active in a number of ways. For example:
Trained Playtime Buddies lead active playtimes
We have a broad curriculum which includes dance, gymnastics and orienteering
Our Y5 and Y6 children have an ambitious residential program which supports the O.A.A. agenda.
Weekly PE lessons are taught by specialist teaching staff and class teachers.
Approximately 100 children take part in paid, after school sports clubs each week.
All children take part in inter house sports competitions at the end of each unit and compete for their house on sports day.
All children take part in sporting enrichment activities such as the Y6 Triathlon.
Our PTA promote sports-based community events such as the spring cycle at The Brownlee Centre.
All staff encourage cycling, scooting and walking to school through our WOW tracker.
Trainers provide specialist 'Bikeability' training for all Y6 children, so they can learn to safely cycle on the roads.
As you can see, our aim is to promote walking to school for health reasons and not just because it's better for the environment. With this in mind, we'd also like to re-issue our updated road safety charter. The charter echoes the health benefits of walking to school and encourages all parents to drive with the safety of all children in mind.
