Dear Parents and Carers,
The lovely sunny weather is a timely reminder that Saturday 25th June is our annual scarecrow trail and school summer fair. For parents who have not had the pleasure of attending these events, they are a real highlight of the school calendar!
Our PTA have worked very hard to ensure that this year is better than ever, and I am delighted that all our Y6 children will be running stalls and games too. Profits from the day will be going towards the large-scale play equipment pupils voted for. Our plan is to install the play equipment as soon as the perimeter fencing has been constructed. I am optimistic that fencing will be okayed in July and erected in September. I very much look forward to finishing this project and seeing everyone enjoying the equipment!
Please do join in with the scarecrow trail (11am-1pm) and stay for the summer fair (1-4pm)

Year 6 Trip to Castle Howard

|
"This week, as part of our enrichment programme, Year 6 ventured to the woodlands surrounding Castle Howard. For three days and two nights, we worked in our tribes, using the residential as an opportunity to put technology to one side, make lifelong memories and sleep under the stars.
On Monday, we arrived by coach and after a short safety briefing, we needed to collect firewood and build the fire which would burn for the duration of our stay. Since we were in the woods, it was important to build shelters, prepare our sleeping bags and establish a clear boundary for our camp. By the time we had completed our tasks and played some games, the sun was beginning to set, and we gathered around the campfire for hot chocolate and a chance to wind down.
On the second morning, we clambered out of our sleeping bags around 7am and enjoyed a continental breakfast in the yurt. The morning was dedicated to practising bushcraft first-aid, which we put into practice later in the day. Tuesday's lunch was a burger cooked on the campfire followed by wood fired pizzas for our evening meal. Afterwards, we stumbled across a mock plane crash. Luckily, our bushcraft first-aid training prepared us to treat and evacuate the casualties. The evening ended with hot chocolate around the campfire before bed. Some Year 6s decided to leave their tents and rolled their mats out on the forest floor! On our final day, we cleared our camp leaving no trace and made our way to a secluded part of the woods to practice archery and tomahawk throwing." Year 6 Pupils
It was a fantastic trip, and we were told that the Year 6 children were a credit to our School!

Parent Workshop
Monday 11th July 5:30-6:30pm
Playground/field and Key stage 1 Hall
As part of our series of parent workshops, Mr Martin Colley will be delivering an interactive session to give us ideas on how to best engage our children in physical activity. Martin has taught secondary PE for over 20 years and currently works for Sporting Influence; their aim is to improve the standard of teaching and opportunities in Primary School sport and to improve social skills through sport. He believes that teaching sport correctly gives children the best chance to develop a positive attitude towards a healthy lifestyle and the potential to move into secondary school with those important skills. The children at Bramhope benefit greatly from Mr Colley’s PE lessons each Monday.
In his own time, Martin can be found out on one of his bikes or putting in the miles running the local tracks and trails. He loves to venture out on hiking and backpacking adventures in all weathers to help him reconnect with the environment.
The session will explore the following areas:
- How to create games from very basic sports equipment
- Cooperation and competition
- How to transform a family walk into an adventure
- What is available online for rainy days.
- How adults can be positive role models.
Please complete the ONLINE FORM if you would like to attend; please note that sports wear / comfortable clothing is advised if you would like to take part in some of the activities.
We hope to see you there!

Thank you to all the children and parents that have taken part in this year's science selfie competition. We have had lots of brilliant entries which we will share in next week's newsletter. We will choose winners of the competition next week with some great science book prizes!
Thank you again to parents who have taken selfies at work or offered to be added to our STEM careers list. If you would still like to be added to our list as a contact for coming into school to talk about your career in STEM, please let us know.

Online Gaming
We know it can be difficult to sometimes understand how to decide which games for your children to access and how to manage their time online. Please find a link to this excellent website HERE which provides reviews on all games and an age rating. It also provides a detailed breakdown to cover things such as level of violence, language etc.
I also include links to our Parenting in a Digital World presentation from earlier this year and our helpful References Sheet which we shared at the workshop.
Over the next couple of weeks, children across school and parents will be completing a survey about online usage. It is an excellent opportunity to understand how we can shape the curriculum for next year by addressing the needs of our children at Bramhope.
Thank you
Mrs Hahnel

Summer Fair 1-4PM
Raffle
Our summer raffle is now live! We have some amazing prizes generously donated from local businesses. You can buy your tickets HERE until 29th June.
The year 6 pupils have been very busy planning their ‘Dragon’s Den’ stalls. We have been so impressed with their ideas and can’t wait to see their stalls in action!
We also have some great stalls from the local businesses including Sarah Warne Photography, see below. Please get in touch if you would like to book a free slot with our photographer, prints will be available to purchase following the event.
Money
We will be relying mostly on cash throughout the Summer Festival, although we will have some limited access to a card machine.
All our stalls at the Summer Festival will be operating on prices of 50p or multiples of 50p.
If you could bring cash that would really help us. The more 50p and £1 coins the better!
We would still love your help!
We would like a few more volunteers for an hour slot on one of our stalls.
We would also love donations for the tombola, second hand teddy stall (for the year 6 pupils), cake stall and second hand book shop. Please drop any donations to the office, thank you so much. For cake donations, please bring any cakes with you on the day from 9AM.
Thank you so much for those who have already volunteered, we have been busy pulling it together so will be in touch this weekend with your instructions! We are very grateful to you all.

The Pre-loved School Uniform Shop
We want to say a big THANK YOU to all the parents who have donated and still are donating their pre-loved school uniforms to us. We very much appreciate it; we have a great turnover and are very busy. Though we still don’t have enough PE kit. Due to ongoing building work and limited access at school we have moved the uniforms out of school.
Please still drop donations off at school which will be picked up swiftly.
Please contact us via bpsuniforms@outlook.com for all requests.
Thank you
