We like you to feel involved in our 'Big Think-Big talk' assemblies.
This week's theme is, Jubilee Celebration.
|
|
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope that your child has enjoyed the variety of our 'Jubilee week' and you have heard a little about what has been happening in school. Mrs Stewart (our History subject leader) has overseen the events and liaised with staff to make it a memorable occasion. Please read on to find out more...
After the half term holiday, school will look a little different again! The builders are starting work in both libraries, KS2 ICT suite, the admin office, pastoral room, headteacher's office and KS2 staffroom. In addition, both KS1 and KS2 entrances will be out of use. We will therefore be de-camping to KS2 hall which will be our temporary office and school entrance.
In June and July, parents who need to speak with the admin team or drop off/collect their child should come to the doorway nearest the ramp leading into KS2 hall. There will be a doorbell and signage to remind all parents. Parents who need to collect their child from Kingfisher Buddies should come to the doors off KS1 playground through which children enter school each morning. Again, there will be signage up to remind you.
Please be patient at the start of the school term. We have done everything we can to ensure that things run smoothly after the holiday, but there may well be problems to iron out.
Finally, a reminder that the footpath next to the KS1 playground is now temporarily closed. Parents will still be able to access the playground as usual during term time, but the path will remain temporarily closed while building works are underway. Please note, there is still no resolution to the permanent closure of the path through school. Although the council agreed it should be closed for safeguarding reasons, a Public Path Extinguishment Order has now been made and will be subject to a period of consultation. I am unclear at this stage when and how this will be resolved but will update you as soon as I can.

This week has been Jubilee celebration week for the whole school. As well as learning about the Queen's Jubilee, we also made links to our school's 60th 'Jubilee' year. As a way of marking both special Jubilees, all classes have planted a tree to form our own Jubilee copse (part of the Queen's Green Canopy initiative). Here is an outline of what we've done this week:
On Tuesday, each class held a Jubilee quiz with help from the history enthusiasts; the knowledge that the children had was amazing.
Wednesday saw a special Jubilee 'street party' style lunch provided by Harrisons Catering, which proved very popular.
On Thursday, the whole school went off timetable to take part in Jubilee themed workshops. Reception have been busily sorting photos of the Queen in chronological order, making their own crowns and building models of Buckingham Palace. Year 1 have been talking about the Queen and the Coronation and designed special bunting and Coronation plates. Year 2 have been writing letters to the Queen which are going to be posted to her. Class 3/4HL have been comparing past Jubilees from Queen Victoria through to Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee looking at change over time and creating their own Jubilee memorabilia. Class 34H have compared Queen Elizabeth 1, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II. Class 45S have looked at how life has changed in Britain over the last 70 years with each group producing a display of their particular decade. Year 5 have considered how changes in technology have altered our perceptions of the Queen. Year 6 have been busily researching and writing non-chronological reports about the life of the Queen.
Finally, today we held key stage assemblies where the children got to share their fabulous work, and wear red/white/blue. It's been a very busy week!

This week 34H have had a fantastic Jubilee week. We compared Queens from the past, made models of members of the royal family and planted our own class tree which will grow for years to come and remind us of this special moment in History!

Class 34HL
EQ: What were other Jubilees like in the past?
On Thursday 34HL looked at Royal Jubilees that have been celebrated in the past. We started with Queen Victoria’s reign and looked at some footage from her Diamond Jubilee. We then watched video footage from Queens Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee. We looked at similarities and differences. We found a lot of things that looked similar like the parades and the soldiers marching. The carriages looked similar as well. When we had talked about Jubilees and how rare it is to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee we started to try and order a selection of photos of memorabilia from three different Monarch’s jubilees – Queen Victoria, King George V and Queen Elizabeth. We looked for clues about when the pictures could be from and tried to use the dates if they had them.

Steve Munzer Author Visit!
On Friday 27 May we were delighted to welcome author Steve Munzer to visit Bramhope Primary School.
Key Stage 1 and Reception pupils were captivated as Steve told them one of his wonderful stories, 'Little Red Riding Bot'.
Key stage 2 pupils enjoyed some inspiring writing workshops where they used drama to explore characters and story lines.
Steve brought a collection of interesting props and artefacts which helped the children to create their own ideas for stories.
Please visit www.munzer.co.uk to find the full collection of Steve's free online books.

Over the next few weeks, we are holding a competition to see what you do at home linked to Science. Science can happen anywhere, and we would love to see what you get up to at home and when you are out and about.
All you need to do is take a ‘selfie’ doing something science related. Our science topics in school range from plants to animals, to materials and the human body. We look at change, growth and the world around us (it really can be anything!). It could be a family shot or an individual, and we are even challenging the teachers take part! Please also add a caption to tell us a bit more and then email the photo to your child's class teacher.
Below are a few ideas, but you can choose anything! Please send in your selfies by Friday 10th June. There will be some science prizes for the most interesting entries!
