We like you to feel involved in our 'Big Think-Big talk' assemblies.
This week's theme is, similarities and differences.
|
|
The key question we discussed is:
- How are we the same and how are we different ?
|
|
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week’s assembly theme is similarities and differences. As our school grows, we are committed to remaining an inclusive community. The ‘Belong’ part of our school motto is about the importance of treating everybody equally. In reality, this means:
- Ensuring children feel that they belong in our school community
- Enabling children to contribute to our local community
- Helping children learn about the global community
Our aim is that every adult and child associated with Bramhope is welcomed and included. Children are taught to behave in a way that allows this to happen. We also teach children about the importance of contributing to other communities, local, national, and international.

|
Today’s assembly was led by our guest speaker John Bunjo. I have known John for a number of years and been fortunate to visit the school he founded in Bombo on two occasions. Bombo is a town located in south-central Uganda, about 20km north of Kampala.
Here in Bramhope, I am keen to take advantage of this link and have been working with our teachers to build the contrasting locality of Uganda into our curriculum. The link offers our children a unique opportunity to connect to children of the same age in a very different culture. For example, our Y2 children are about to receive replies to the letters they wrote to children in Way of Salvation Primary School, Bombo. They also used Face Time to speak to children and staff at the school. Today, children in both key stages listened to John’s presentation and had an opportunity to ask questions. We intend to build upon this link and I will be sending a letter about ways for children and families to get involved with the school if they wish to. In the meantime, if you would like to find out more about our link school in Uganda, click on https://childrenofhope.org.uk/

Brownlee Mini-Triathlon
On Tuesday, Year 6 travelled to Bradford Grammar School to take part in a mini-triathlon. It was a glorious sunny day and everyone had a fantastic time. We started the event by learning about the format of a triathlon in a pre-race briefing before each child was given their own swim cap and event t-shirt.
Fraser dived into the pool first with Ethan and the rest of the Year 6 children hot on their heels. Much like any triathlon, transition one was a blur of organised chaos as each child clambered out of the pool towards their bikes. After following a twisting bike course, each child racked their bike as fast as they could and left transition two to begin the run. At the end, every child was awarded a medal and a goody bag.
The Year 6 children preformed extremely well, demonstrating respect, team work, communication and determination. Responses included:
'I'm definitely going to do another triathlon.' Ethan.
'I had an amazing day; I would definitely do it again. My favourite part was swimming.' Alice.
'If I were you, I would add completing a triathlon to your bucket list immediately.' Maisie.

Over the next few weeks, we are holding a competition to see what you do at home linked to Science. Science can happen anywhere, and we would love to see what you get up to at home and when you are out and about.
All you need to do is take a ‘selfie’ doing something science related. Our science topics in school range from plants to animals, to materials and the human body. We look at change, growth and the world around us (it really can be anything!). It could be a family shot or an individual, and we are even challenging the teachers take part! Please also add a caption to tell us a bit more and then email the photo to your child's class teacher.
Below are a few ideas, but you can choose anything! Please send in your selfies by Friday 10th June. There will be some science prizes for the most interesting entries!

Mosaic Design Day
Ruth Wilkinson came in on Monday and spent the day working with classes to discuss their design ideas for the whole-school mosaic. Ruth said that the children had some wonderful concepts which she is going to incorporate into the design. She is busy working in her studio for the rest of the week creating a final design and getting all the resources and materials ready for the big build next week!
Ruth said that the classes were really enthusiastic and well-behaved, and it has been lovely to chat with the children about the mosaic this week. They have been so excited and there has been a real creative buzz around school. Many of the children have been particularly fascinated with the concept that a piece of art that they are contributing to could be around when they are adults or even when they have children themselves! A real legacy. Some children have even asked where they can buy mosaic making kits, so I think we’ve inspired a few artists already!
Ruth will be back in for the whole of next week working with the children in small groups to create the mosaic and Reception’s individual tiles.
I can’t wait to see it finished and hung on the wall for all to enjoy!

Coats
Please ensure your child wears a coat to school. We like the children to play outside whenever possible and the frequent showers are challenging when children get wet.

Thank you PTA!
Thank you so much to the PTA for funding the new i-pads we are now using in class. They have been invaluable at recording key moments in learning and have enabled children to access a variety of apps across all subject areas.
34HL have particularly enjoyed Garageband this half term.
A huge thank you!
