Year 1 Trip to Skipton Castle
This Tuesday, Year 1 went on their very first school trip, and what a school trip it was!
We travelled to Skipton Castle to support our historical enquiry skills by seeking answers to our key questions which were:
- Are castles only built for Kings and Queens?
- How have castles changed over time?
The children really enjoyed learning about a castle that has been around for over 900 years and how it has changed from being made out of wood to now being made out of stone! We learnt lots of interesting facts such as:
People who worked in the castle did not sleep in bedrooms, but on tables in the banqueting hall!
Going to the toilet was a very dangerous activity indeed because there was a very long drop below you, into the depths of the moat below.
We loved being at Skipton Castle and had so much fun exploring the grounds and seeing what is still there!
A huge thank-you to all the parents, staff and governors who came along to help us, it couldn’t have happened without you!
