We like you to feel involved in our 'Big Think-Big talk' assemblies.
This week's theme is: Our school Birthday
The key questions we discussed are:
- What events do you celebrate each year?
|

Dear parents and carers,
In case it’s passed you by, Thursday 7 October was our school Birthday! The ‘Upper school’ (KS2 building) was opened on 7 October 1961 and Mrs Stewart kicked off a year- long calendar of celebratory events in two, age appropriate assemblies. Children learnt what life was like 60 years ago, discussed what was going on at the time and heard first -hand what it was like to be a pupil here in the '90s. The school has obviously changed a great deal since then but the values, friendships and community spirit remains the same.
I am delighted to be leading the school into its seventh decade, and I am spending considerable time meeting relevant parties regarding our forthcoming expansion. It is certainly an exciting time for the school and the plan is for all building and landscaping works to be completed by September’22. Once the Local Authority has agreed to the funding decision and the planning application has been approved, I will be in a position to share plans with you.

Parents meetings
Now that you have had an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher in a group setting, we would like to invite you to an individual parents meeting on either Tuesday 19 or Thursday 21 October. Face to face appointments will be offered between 3:30pm and 6:30pm on both days, and we will write to you next week explaining how you book through scopay.
The focus of the meetings will be discussing how well your child has settled into school as well as feedback on their learning behaviours. There should also be time to answer questions you may have, and it would be helpful for us if you could complete the online information sheet prior to your meeting: HERE. Please complete this form by Wednesday 13 October, so class teachers have time to prepare for your meeting.
Appointments are 10 minutes long and will take place in your child’s classroom. We appreciate your support in keeping to these timings. If we feel that we need an extended conversation (for example if your child has complex learning needs) class teachers may offer you a longer meeting time.

Self -isolation and school work
As you would expect, we have a number of children who have needed to self -isolate whilst they have been awaiting test results or because the N.H.S. have named them as a close contact. If your child is self- isolating, please email their class teacher directly to discuss their home learning. If your child is well enough to work, class teachers will advise which work they should access from the Home learning section of the website but will not be offering individual Teams sessions.

Choosing a secondary school
Now that children have settled back into school, I know that many parents will be thinking ahead to the next stage of their education and the big move to secondary school.
From experience, parents have found it useful to consider this move before Y6 and consider their options early. I am very happy to share my thoughts about what to look for when choosing a secondary school for your child and would like to invite any interested parents to a meeting on Tuesday 12 October from 6pm-7pm. This meeting is open to parents of children in Y5 and Y6 and will be held in KS2 hall.

This week, as part of our unit of learning on the history of Bramhope, all classes in KS2 went on an informative walk around the village.
They observed places of historical significance including listed buildings such as The Puritan Chapel and places special to the village such as The Cross and War Memorial. Thank you to all parents / grandparents who accompanied us - it was great to have you with us and the children thoroughly enjoyed being able to share their learning with you.

Emilia Year 3/4
"We saw lots of really interesting places like the Bramhope Cross"
Ava Year 4
"We got to see some listed buildings. My favourite part was interviewing Tariq!"
Eva, Year 4
"5/6L really enjoyed their walk around Bramhope and recognised some of the listed buildings that we had been learning about, such as the Puritan Chapel. It was interesting that earth for the Knoll in the park came from digging out the Bramhope tunnel. We were surprised that the Bramhope cross and the war memorial are not listed.......yet! Thank you to all the parents who came with us!

Diamond Jubilee '60th Birthday'!
This week we launched our Diamond Jubilee Year of Celebration with assemblies for KS1 and KS2.
In both assemblies, children formed part of living time-line to provide some context about how long ago 60 years ago was. A special thank you to Sarah McCloud (parent of Archie and Betsy) who, as a past pupil of the school, gave a very informative talk about her time at Bramhope Primary in the 1990s.
The assemblies were finished with a sing-a-long of Happy Birthday accompanied by Miss Gregson on the piano. As an extra special treat, all children were provided with a birthday bun at lunchtime.
Our year of celebration has only just begun and we are still keen to build our alumni of past pupils to support our Living Books event later in the year. Thank you to those parents who have provided me with photos and stories so far, but we need more! If you think you can help in any way please email me: history@bramhopeprimaryschool.co.uk
