We’d like you to feel involved in your child’s learning and maybe build on class discussion around our weekly ‘key questions’

Dear parents and carers,
Thank you so much for the understanding you have shown about the changes to our end of term arrangements. Parents have been very appreciative of our efforts to prioritise the children throughout this very challenging period, and we are all hoping that our traditional school events can run as normal from September.
Every child and parent in the country has missed out over the past fifteen months. I am aware that some parents are particularly disappointed not to be attending sports day this year. Please be reassured that we have given this a great deal of thought and considered various options before coming to this decision. I also discussed it with the governors at our most recent meeting as well as Janet Sheriff as CEO of The Trust. I would love parents to attend sports day, but unfortunately schools have different restrictions to public outdoor events. Under updated DfE guidance ‘sports days can go ahead, but pupils must remain in their bubbles. Spectators must adhere to current social distancing requirements and can only gather in separate groups of up to 30’
We want to offer the children as normal a sports day as possible. If we had parents on site, we would have to ask children to compete in class groups as opposed to key stages and stagger their activities across the day so that each group of up to 30 parents could watch their own child. Children wouldn’t be there to see or support each other or feel part of a House event, so we have prioritised the pupil experience, knowing that it unfortunately impacts on parents.
As a parent, I do empathise that you are missing out on this experience, but we will do our best to make it special for the children. As usual, children have taken part in the heats for their races during their PE lessons. I have been greatly impressed with the enthusiasm children have already demonstrated, along with their team spirit and the support they have shown one another. Thank you again for being so understanding and trusting that we are putting the children at the heart of our decision-making.

Sports Day Heats
Ahead of next week's Sports Days, pupils from Years 1- 6 have been competing within their houses to take part in the sprint finals. Each house determined their fastest short distance runners (over 40 to 60 metres depending on their year group). The fastest two runners from each house will proceed to the final to represent their house during Sports Day.
I have been incredibly impressed with the quality of running in the heats with pupils showing strong determination and a desire to compete. Equally, teachers across school noted the positive body language, encouragement, and respect children demonstrated during the hotly contested races. I observed several children congratulating those who made it through and wishing them the best for the finals.
Additionally, Years 5 and 6 trialled a new, long-distance running event where pupils could earn points ahead of Sports Day. After each house chose two long-distance specialists, we held girls' and boys' elimination races for each year group.
It was great to hear the encouragement from the spectating children as the racers ran laps of the course. Points from the long-distance race will be added to Thursday's Key Stage 2 Sports Day.

Winners of Bramhope Show Competition 2021
The lovely people who organise the Bramhope Show asked me to run a school competition to design the front cover of their new brochure. The theme was ‘The Village Party’ and I was so impressed with all the entries.
We have some very talented artists here at Bramhope Primary School! I gave the entries to the show organisers and they spent a long time perusing them and trying to agree on a favourite. School Garden
Class 34H have been spending some time recently in the school wildlife garden. The children have helped plant summer bedding plants with volunteers from Bramhope in Bloom and they have also been tending to their vegetable patch to make sure it is weed free and well-watered. The children have enjoyed getting outdoors and exploring our wildlife garden in the sunshine!

BPS Camping Weekend
Once again, 30+ families chose to go camping together this year and not surprisingly, the children were an absolute delight.
Sue Osborne has organised this event for 10 years now and this year will be her last. I know that families past and present have fond memories of an idyllic time at Masons campsite and are hugely grateful to her for all her hard work.
Thank you, Sue. I’m sure the camping tradition will continue for many more years to come!
