Dear parents and carers, Many of you will be aware that Mrs Flower is leaving us at the end of this year. Mrs Flower has played a key role within school, most recently as SENDCO. I'm delighted to announce that we have appointed an experienced practitioner (Chris Dawes) to take on the SENDCO role from September. We have also appointed an additional experienced teacher (Nicola Freer) to meet the needs of our growing school, both of whom are new to the area: |

Chris My name is Chris Dawes and I will be in my eighth year of teaching next year. My family and I are relocating to Yorkshire from Warwickshire to be closer to my wife’s family, and we are looking forward to embracing all that Yorkshire has to offer. I am thrilled to be joining the team at Bramhope, and I am looking forward to meeting everybody in the future. I really enjoy working with all children and love my job as it is different every day and is incredibly sociable. A particular passion of mine is to enable the children with SEN or the children that need extra support to progress and reach their maximum potential. I have previously worked to ensure that my school builds links with the local community, and I am looking forward to continuing this as I know Bramhope Primary has strong links in the local area. Outside of school, I am kept busy by my children and our dog Darwin. I was assured that my Cocker Spaniel would ‘calm down’ after a few years, but she still needs a good run each night. I’ve always enjoyed cycling (even before the big cycling boom), but I admit I’m a fair-weather participant these days! |

Nicola Hello I'm Nicola Freer. I worked as a midwife for 12 years and moved into teaching in 2012. I have been teaching in Hertfordshire for the past eight years, and I am relocating with my husband to Yorkshire as we love it! I am currently working in Reception, but I have several years of experience in KS1. I am very committed to continued professional development and as RE leader, I have been an active member of our Local Authority ‘best practice’ group. I also mentor students. I have had experience of working in a growing school and am thrilled to be part of the exciting expansion project at Bramhope Primary School. I am married with two adult children, one who is at University and one who has just graduated. To relax, I love to curl up with a good book. I also enjoy walking my dog, Teddy, in the countryside and I can't wait to explore the sights in Yorkshire! |

RSE Update Many thanks to those parents who responded to our consultation regarding forthcoming changes to the teaching of RSE (Relationship and sex education) at Bramhope. We had 98 respondents in total and Mrs House (our PSHE lead) is currently contacting parents to arrange follow-up meetings. I am sure you are all aware that there is much discussion about healthy relationships and consent in the media. We believe we have an important role to play in starting those age-appropriate conversations at primary school and I look forward to hearing your feedback and your child’s feedback when we implement our new planning next academic year. |

School Calendar 2021-22 After yet another disrupted term, I know that many of you are keen to book holidays for the next academic year. As you will see, we are again amalgamating training days at the beginning and end of the school year so that we have an earlier finish to the end of summer term ’22 and minimal short weeks. You will find a full list of school holidays, training days and bank holidays HERE. |
|
Please note that I am unable to authorise any holidays during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. |

Children's Road Safety It has come to our attention that some children and parents are using the road to the carpark (near the doctors) to leave school at the end of the day. Please help us set an example of keeping safe and use the designated path and crossing instead. Thank you |

Hidden Artistic Talents As you are aware, we are currently unable to have parent volunteers on site. Looking ahead, we will be reintroducing parent volunteers next year and would love to hear from you! If there are any parents, grandparents, aunties or uncles with artistic / design and technology skills, we would like to invite you to come in to school, in the new academic year, to share them with the children. This could be in the form of a short talk, a demonstration, or you could help Mrs Heald teach a lesson on your chosen area. It would be great for the children to be inspired by the creativity blossoming in their own community. Please email Harriet.Heald@bramhopeprimaryschool.co.uk if you would like to volunteer. We will not be asking any volunteers to come into school this year. Thank you Mrs Heald |

Year 5/6 Creations The children in Year 5/6 are making their very own cushions in Art this term, but we are still short of fabric and stuffing! If you do have any spare fabric at home (pillow cases, bedding or old curtains for example) or any cushion stuffing, please send this into school and leave it with the Admin Team. Your donations would be very much appreciated. Thank you Mrs Heald |
