Dear Parents and Carers,
It was lovely to spend part of this morning with some of our Y5 children. Following last week’s workshop, groups were presenting their plans to improve our environment both locally (in school) as well as at home and further afield. The children have already raised a number of practical ‘quick wins’ ranging from organising book swaps to buying wooden rulers and I was very impressed with their team work, vision and presentation skills. The next step will be turning ideas into action plans and I look forward to letting you know more about our pupil led, eco friendly initiatives.
Photographs
Thank you for sending children in smart uniform for yesterday’s individual photographs. We did have a number of children in trainers however, and I would like to remind all parents that school uniform is as follows:
Girls: Black outdoor shoes or boots with little or no heel (not slip-ons).
Boys: Black outdoor shoes (not trainers)
Our uniform requirements are listed in full on our school website and in our parent handbook. Please ask at the office if you need any clarification or have any questions about what your child should be wearing. Please note that we will be having a whole school photograph in May as well as class photographs in February.
Giving
Ahead of our Harvest celebrations, the whole of next week is dedicated to the theme of ‘giving’. Children of all ages will be learning about what it means to be thankful and the importance of giving to others. With this in mind, we would be most grateful if you could send your child with the following:
A pound to be given to your child’s class teacher on Friday in aid of our International charity, CRMI
Following on from last year’s success, we are collecting food in our ‘house groups’ and request that children bring in the following in aid of our local charity, St George’s crypt. Please note that food items can be brought in any day next week.
· Bronte - Tinned Tuna or Jars of Coffee
· Burton - Tinned Fruit or Jars of Pasta Sauce
· Hepworth - Tinned Meats or Toilet Rolls
· Wilberforce - Tinned Tomatoes or Washing Powder
Calendar
We have almost finalised our whole school calendar and will be able to issue all key dates right until the end of the academic year, with next week’s newsletter.
Harrison catering
Our catering manager Craig Robinson will be moving to St Peter’s school in York towards the end of this month. Craig has overseen our school catering for two years and I’m sure you would like to join me in thanking him for all his hard work both on site and at school events. Jon Simpson will be taking over from Craig and has already visited the site and met our staff. Jon has worked with Harrison for a number of years and is committed to providing the same quality of food and service. Jon will also be doing the ‘Chefs adopt a school’ training in November, so food and cookery workshops will continue in the same way.
I look forward to seeing many of you at next week’s Harvest morning.
Have a lovely weekend,
Rachel Colbourn
