Dear Parents and Carers,
‘I thought it was the best summer fair ever!’ So said one of our school council members on Thursday and I’d like to end the week by thanking everyone who helped make our summer festival such as success. The weather was perfect, the organisation was superb and the crowds came flocking in! In terms of profit it was a record breaking year; we raised an amazing £5000! More importantly, the children had fun, there was a great atmosphere and a real sense of community. Many people worked to make the day a success but I do specifically want to mention Carey Henry who led and managed the whole event with Nicki Dodds and Laura Mould heading up the Scarecrow Hunt. Thank you to everyone who was involved this year - we couldn’t have done it without you!
We now have enough funds to embark on stage one of our great outdoors project and we can think about timings of when we transform our KS2 playground! In reality, this won’t be until early next term but I am very much looking forward to re-launching our playgrounds as creative spaces which offer children choice in terms of sports as well as quieter activities. Thank you for your continued support, we hope you can come along to the summer fun run on the Friday 19th July from 4-6pm too! It promises to be another fun event.
Finally, I’d like to remind all parents about our invitation to see the children’s artwork at our first, whole school exhibition on Wednesday & Thursday. Following the exhibition opening on Thursday morning, the whole of school is having an ‘open doors’ morning so if you’d like to come in and see us in action on an ordinary day, do drop in at any point between 9:30 and 10:30am on Thursday.
Have a lovely weekend.
Rachel Colbourn

Summer festival & Scarecrow hunt raises thousands for Great Outdoors Project!
On the hottest day of the year, we were thrilled to see so many of you come along to support our annual scarecrow hunt and summer festival and we couldn’t have asked for a better day. The PTA would like to extend an absolutely HUGE “Thank you” to everyone that helped, without whom the festival really would not have happened. All have spent many hours over the last month, coordinating everything which culminated in a fun packed day for everybody.
With some 49 scarecrow entries including: Spiderman, Captain Underpants and Greta Thunberg basking in our glorious Bramhope sun our hunt went from strength to strength. It was also our first year of inviting the YR 6 enterprise stalls along so a massive thank you them - it was great to see you representing the school so well by volunteering your time to fundraise with us. I’m sure you will agree it was a fantastic event that brings everyone together!
Also thank you to the local businesses who have contributed to the event; Popsies, Dacres, Bramhope Tennis, Rugby Toys, Blade Martial Arts, Bramhope Parish Council and our Police and Fire service who gave their time. Oh, and a big thanks to the sunshine once again!
The final numbers are not quite in yet, but we raised close to a record breaking £5k on the day, so thank you to everyone who supported us!
See more photos from the day on the website here!

High School Experience Day
On Monday, Year 5 visited Prince Henry's Grammar School to experience high school for a day. In the morning, the children enjoyed a carousel of lessons including English, Science and Chinese. During the science lesson, they tested whether a substance was an acid or an alkali, and in Chinese they learnt basic greetings and to count to ten. For the afternoon session, the children were treated to a musical performance by Prince Henry's students and it was lovely to see some of our former pupils up on stage performing with such confidence. Throughout the day, all of the children represented our school brilliantly and engaged fully in all of the activities.

Sporting Influence Cricket
On Wednesday a group of year 5 and 6 boys traveled to Bilton cricket club for the final sporting fixture of the school year. In this week's match Bramhope played New Park Academy in single wicket cricket.
We played four, ten minute, timed innings with Bramhope scoring an impressive 38 runs in their first go batting. Thanks to excellent fielding, particularly from George, New Park only scored 19 runs. In Bramhope's final innings we managed to build on the success of the first and finished on 72 runs, while New Park only scored 27.
'It was a really fun match, and a great opportunity to play together for one last time,' Ahmad.
'Playing cricket on Wednesday is a great way to represent Bramhope,' Alex.

PSHE Visitor - Staying Healthy Workshops
This week each class was visited by Dave from D:Side who came to help us with our PSHE learning. Dave delivered a series of workshops about Staying Healthy and Drug & Medicine Safety across the school.
In Reception the children loved Dave and his funny stories! They really enjoyed talking about their feelings and playing a game of bingo.
In Years 1&2 we learnt about how to keep our bodies healthy, including; healthy foods, why calcium is important and how to store medicines safely. We were visited by an alien called 'Q' who had lots of questions about how to stay healthy and we were super at answering questions to help!
In Years 3&4, the children learnt about the dangers of smoking. They discussed what is inside a cigarette, the effect it might have on your body and how to respond to potential peer pressure. They did some great role-play about resisting peer pressure. Lots of children asked interesting questions about e-cigarettes.
In Years 5&6, Dave talked to us about medicinal, legal and illegal drugs. Then, some of the children tried on special glasses as if they were drunk and then tried to walk round a chair and sit down.
D:Side visit over 120 schools in Leeds each year and we were happy to welcome them to our school this year to discuss these important topics.
