Dear Parents and Carers,
As a school in a fortunate area, I am delighted that Bramhope is building on its long established tradition for giving locally and reaching out overseas. Monday’s assembly was led by Juliet Burd, UK Director of CRMI Children of Hope, a small Christian charity based in the North West of of England. https://childrenofhope.org.uk/
‘Children of Hope’ works with some of the poorest and most vulnerable children, young adults and families in Uganda. It helps them build better lives for themselves and their families and believes that education holds the key to a better future. I have been personally involved with the charity for a number of years, helping to establish a child sponsorship programme, developing links between schools and even leading school visits to Uganda.
In Bramhope we have started small, I have challenged the children to earn a pound by doing a small job at home. The money raised will be spent buying some fruit trees to plant in Salvation Way Primary School and children in both schools are being asked what is best to plant: mango, passion fruit or avocado trees. Juliet flew to Uganda yesterday (her seventeenth visit!) and I have asked her to photograph the trees being planted and come back and tell us how they are growing.
I do hope you are able to support this initiative and can encourage your child to earn a pound. As Juliet explained in her assembly, we can’t help everyone who needs help, but we can all make a difference, an important message for our children and future leaders.
Have a lovely weekend.
Yours sincerely,
Rachel Colbourn
