Year 6
If school is closed, please complete the following activities each day to keep your skills sharp and your learning on track.
Reading
Daily Reading – 20 minutes
Spend at least 20 minutes reading a book of your choice. This could be an adventure story, a fantasy novel, a crime mystery or a non-fiction text. As you read, think carefully about the characters, the setting and any new or interesting vocabulary you come across.
Writing
Writing Task – Information Text
Choose a topic that interests you (e.g. animals, space, a sport, a famous person, a hobby). Write an information text including headings, subheadings, facts and technical vocabulary. When finished, you can email it to your class teacher or bring it into school when we reopen.
Maths
Mathletics
Log in to Mathletics and complete the tasks your teacher has set for you. Make sure you stay up to date with all assigned activities.
Times Tables Rock Stars
Practise your multiplication and division facts on TT Rockstars. Aim to improve your speed and accuracy each day.
Art
Repeating Print Pattern
Create your own repeating print pattern. You could use everyday objects (sponges, leaves, cardboard shapes) and paint or colouring materials to design a pattern that repeats across the page.
Computing
Touch Typing
Practise your typing skills using BBC Dance Mat Typing. Try to complete a level or improve your accuracy and speed.
Hour of Code
Visit Hour of Code and explore one of the coding challenges. This is a great way to build your programming skills and problem-solving confidence.
Science
Investigate a natural phenomenon. Choose something that fascinates you. It could be volcanoes, electricity, forces, light, the human body, or animal adaptations. Create a short explanation or diagram showing how it works and why it is important. You can present it as a poster, labelled drawing, or information text.
Geography
Explore a place in the world. Pick a country or region you’re curious about. Find out about its climate, landscape, population, landmarks and culture. Create a fact file, map, or short presentation to show what you’ve learnt.
History
Research a historical figure or event. Choose someone or something from the past— an inventor, an explorer, a monarch, a civilisation or a major event. Write a short summary explaining who/what it was, why it mattered, and how it changed the world.
