Year 5

If school is closed, please complete the following activities each day to keep your skills sharp and your learning on track.

Reading

Daily Reading – 20 minutes

Spend at least 20 minutes reading a book of your choice.  This could be an adventure story, a fantasy novel, a mystery or a non-fiction text. As you read, think carefully about the characters, the setting and any new or interesting vocabulary you come across.

Writing

Writing Task – Story Writing

Write your own short story. You can choose any genre you enjoy—adventure, mystery, fantasy or something inspired by your own experiences. Think about your characters, the setting, the problem and how it will be resolved. When finished, you can email your story to your class teacher or bring it into school when we reopen.

Maths

Mathletics

Log in to Mathletics and complete the tasks your teacher has set for you. Make sure you stay up to date with all assigned activities.

Times Tables Rock Stars

Practise your multiplication and division facts on TT Rockstars. Aim to improve your speed and accuracy each day.

Science

Investigate a natural phenomenon. Choose something that fascinates you: volcanoes, electricity, forces, light, the human body, or animal adaptations. Create a short explanation or diagram showing how it works and why it is important. You can present it as a poster, labelled drawing, or information text.

Geography

Explore rivers. Choose a river in the UK or elsewhere in the world. Find out about its source, course, features (meanders, waterfalls, floodplains), and why rivers are important to people and wildlife. Present your findings as a fact file, labelled diagram or short presentation.

History

Research the local history of Bramhope. You might explore the Bramhope Tunnel, the village’s Victorian past, local landmarks, or how the area has changed over time. Create a short summary, timeline or fact file explaining what you discovered and why it is significant.
